Core Competencies



A student self-assessment of the core competencies must be included as part of the final report at the end of June for all students in grades 8 and 9.  It is important that students be able to identify their strengths and areas for improvement through self-reflection and self-assessment. In taking ownership of this aspect of their learning, students should be able to describe how they are developing their core competencies, with the help of their teacherwhere necessary.

On June 5th, all grade 8 and 9 students will be called to an assembly where this self-assessment task will be shared with them.  An electronic template is available at the top of this page for download.  On June 13, 2018, grade 8 classes will be brought to the computer labs in the school to upload their self-assessment to their ‘locker’ in the MyEdBC Family Portal.  Since most grade 9 students are familiar with this process already, they will upload their self-assessment on their own time; however, computer labs and supervision/ support will be provided at lunch for grade 9 students who need help with uploading their self-assessment document.    


This year, Tupper students will focus on the Personal and Social competency, specifically assessing themselves with regards to the concept of ‘Valuing Diversity.’ For more information on this domain, scroll to the bottom of this page and click the link titled "Social Responsibility."
