WOW did September fly by for you?  October has some of our favourite fundraisers and activities.  Reminder the Lost and Found Boxes are already quite full, take a minute at drop off or pickup to check them out.  Bet you’ll find that missing hoodie or sweater which your kids will need now that the weather is chillier.

 

OCTOBER 2nd - 6th

DASH BC is excited to present our 10th annual Walk and Wheel to School event as part of International Walk to School Month (iWalk) from October 2nd - 6th, 2017. Walk and Wheel to School encourages students, parents, staff, and community members to celebrate the many benefits of walking and wheeling to school, such as:

  • Celebrating active transportation and encouraging daily physical activity
  • Promoting opportunities to practice safe walking and biking skills and identifying safe routes to school
  • Enhancing the connection between students, parents, schools, and communities in a fun and interactive way
  • Reducing school traffic congestion and vehicle emissions

 

OCTOBER 15-19 SCHOLASTIC ENGLISH BOOK FAIR

** VOLUNTEERS Needed **

There will be lots great English books for sale, but no French books at this time.  Stay tuned for the French Book Fair in 2018.

This is an entirely parent-run event, and we rely on parent volunteers to help the book fair run smoothly.  Come sign up for 1 hr or more if you have the time.

Come to the meeting! It is a great way to keep in touch with the school and to know what's going on.  As always babysitting will be available from 6:25pm in the small gym.


PUMPKIN PATCH ***NEEDS VOLUNTEERS**

TUESDAY OCTOBER 24 - ALL DAY – Wheelbarrows Needed too

Calling all parent volunteers for this year's pumpkin patch! Come out and join in the fun on Tuesday October 31 where we will transform our field into a pumpkin patch. We need the most help in the early morning hours to set up (wheelbarrows needed!) as well as help during the day. If you can spare an hour or two, please sign up for this fun event!

SPUD Fundraiser!

Help Us Fundraise with Organic Produce!

When you order organic produce boxes from SPUD, 25% will be donated to Laura Secord and the produce will be delivered right to your door! This applies to new and existing customers.

Here is how:

1. Create an account at SPUD.ca

2. Choose the organic produce box you want to order and add it to your cart. The boxes are listed on the SPUD Fundraising page under the Home tab (SPUD.ca/fundraising)

BCCPAC By Election UPDATE

By-Election for VSB Trustees - 2 All Candidates Forum
The Vancouver by-election to elect a new 9-member Board of Education will be held October 14th. Advance voting will be held at City Hall on October 4th and 10th. We encourage all voters to get informed about the individuals running for Trustee positions for the Vancouver School Board.
The City of Vancouver has published information on all the 19 candidates who are running for the VSB Board.  Additionally information on their education platforms can be found on the related links in their profiles.

Forum - Oct 2

The Institute for Public Education is hosting an all Candidates Forum on Monday October 2, 2017, from 7:30-9:30pm at the Trout Lake Community Center. in Vancouver. Candidates will be available for a question and answer session about their vision for the future of Vancouver schools.
Forum - Oct 3
Vancouver DPAC is holding an all Candidates Forum on Tuesday October 3, 2017, from 6:30-9:30pm at John Oliver Secondary School in Vancouver with Tracy Sherlock as moderator. This event is open to the public, but DPAC especially invites parents/guardians in the school district to attend. Admission is free.
