IMPORTANT CHANGE OF DATE INFORMATION FOR 2017-2018 CHOICE PROGRAM ADMISSION:

Given ongoing discussions at the provincial level regarding restored teacher collective agreement language and its implementation, the district has determined it is necessary to delay placement offers for ALL elementary and secondary district choice programs.  This includes French Immersion at Queen Elizabeth Annex and Jules Quesnel.

The revised date for first placement offers for all district choice programs has been changed to WEDNESDAY, MARCH 1ST, 2017.

2017-18 French Immersion Registration
All parents interested in French Immersion at École Jules Quesnel (JQ) or Queen Elizabeth Annex (QEA) are strongly encouraged to attend the parent information session to learn about the French Immersion program.  This session will be held on:
Date: Tuesday, January 10th, 2017 at 7 pm
Location:  École Jules Quesnel – Multi-Purpose Room
Brief Tours of the school will be offered on Wednesday, November 16th, Wednesday, December 7th and Wednesday, January 11th from 1:30 to 2:00 pm.  Please advise/confirm with the School Office if you would like to have a tour on one of these dates at:  604-713-4577.
(Enter the school through the doors off the school parking lot on West 14th Avenue/Crown.  The Multi-Purpose Room is straight ahead.)
                        Application/Registration process:
All students must first register at their English in-catchment school.
Application to French Immersion is done on-line from January 9th, 2017 to February 6th, 2017 (closing at midnight) on the following VSB website:

At this site, parents can indicate several choices of program in priority order.  Please note that École Jules Quesnel/Queen Elizabeth Annex is considered to be one choice as we share the same catchment for French Immersion.
We anticipate that a total of 66 French Immersion Kindergarten spots will be offered in the JQ/QEA catchment with 44 spots at JQ and 22 spots at QEA.  You may indicate JQ as your first choice but may be offered a spot at QEA if the 44 spots at JQ have already been taken by those higher on the draw list.   Please take note of the school at which you are accepted, either JQ or QEA – it may not be your first choice.
Offers of Placement will be made by email on February 20th.  Parents will have 48 hours to respond.
Please note that if you decline a spot, you are declining a French Immersion spot in the catchment and are declining at both schools.  You will not be eligible to stay on the list for your school of choice, be it JQ or QEA.
Switching schools from QEA to JQ or vice-versa
Should you accept a spot at one school but strongly wish to move to the other school, please send this request in writing to the Principals at both schools.  Consideration can only be given if space becomes available at the other school.  We refer to the original lottery list as to the priority order of transferring students from QEA to JQ if and when space becomes available.

IMPORTANT: It is important that parents select the educational program they feel is best suited for their child (i.e. French Immersion, Montessori). Each program is designed with a different learning outcome in mind select the one you believe is best for your child.
TIP:  If French Immersion is your preferred educational program, make sure you select your "In-catchment" French Immersion school as your first choice. If you select a school that is not within your priority registration zone (aka "catchment") your chances of getting in will likely be much lower.

Sibling Priority
Sibling Priority is given to French Immersion Kindergarten applicants, only if all the following conditions are met:
  • The applicant has an older sibling who attends French Immersion at JQ or QEA in the current 2016-17 school year, AND that older sibling will be a student in French Immersion at JQ or the QEA in 2017-18, AND you live within the boundaries of the Vancouver School Board.
  • The applicant must still be registered first at his/her in-catchment English program school.
  • The applicant must still apply on-line for French Immersion at JQ/QEA during the application period.
  • Indicate “sibling” on your on-line application.

Late application or failure to follow these procedures will result in the child losing sibling priority and possibly not getting into French Immersion at Jules Quesnel or the Annex.
There will be a district supervised draw to select applicants for the available program space, should there be more applicants than available space. Offers for program spaces will be made by late February. You will be given (via email) a formal offer of a space in a Kindergarten choice program or an indication of where you sit on the waitlist if JQ/QEA was your first choice.  If you have not heard back by late February, please contact us and we will help you find out about your child’s status.

Applications for French Immersion Kindergarten from outside the Jules Quesnel/Queen Elizabeth Annex Priority Registration Zone:
As French Immersion Kindergarten is a District Choice program, the catchment is the entire district; that said, each French Immersion school is within a defined Priority Registration Zone. Students may apply to attend Kindergarten at any of our French Immersion schools. Priority for acceptance into French Immersion kindergarten will be given to applicants who reside within their Priority Registration Zone.

As application to French Immersion kindergarten is done on-line, and as applicants may indicate a first and a second choice, parents do not need to complete a VSB Cross-Boundary Application Form when applying to a French Immersion school that is outside of their priority registration zone; you would instead indicate your non-priority registration zone school as one of your choices when you apply on-line. Please take careful note of the procedures above, as selecting a non-priority registration zone as your first choice may decrease your chances of getting into French Immersion should there be a draw.
