Comparative Civilization 12

Prerequisite: Social Studies 10

This course will examine some of the major civilizations of the world and ask students to deal with basic questions about culture and society. What is civilization? What do archaeology and material culture tell us about ancient civilizations? What are the origins of beliefs and values? What are the origins of contemporary culture?

Many aspects of civilization may be studied in this course:

religion, architecture, philosophy, art, music, social change, and contemporary global issues. Evaluation will be based on term projects, essays, presentations, tests, and participation.
