    Dear Parent / Guardian,
    Re: Numeracy Assessment
The Numeracy Assessment is a new provincial assessment and graduation requirement for current Grade 10 and Grade 11 students on the 2018 Graduation Program. Students can write the assessment during their graduation years (Grades 10 – 12) to evaluate a student’s numeracy skills developed over the course of their education.
Although the exam needs to be completed before graduation, the assessment is based on mathematical concepts learned across multiple subjects from kindergarten to Grade 10, with emphasis on material covered to Grade 9. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that students in Grades 10 and 11 complete the numeracy exam in June. This will allow for students to have the opportunity to rewrite if needed.
Registration for the June Numeracy Assessment is April 23rd to May 15th. Students can sign up on line from a link on the Kitsilano web site. The assessment itself, is to be written on one of June 22, 25, 26, 27, or 28. The assessment is composed of 24 questions answered online, 2 long-response questions answered on paper, and a self-reflection component answered online.
More information and sample exams can be found at:
Please contact Kitsilano Admistration, Math Department, or Grade Counselor for any questions.
Joint Letter from Janet Fraser and Suzanne Hoffman to Parents/Guardians
Attached, please find a joint Letter from Janet Fraser, Board Chair, and Suzanne Hoffman, Superintendent for Parents/Guardians.
We’re proud to announced that Max Redmond our grade 9 student was one of the 120 students from across Canada in attendance, and one of 10 students selected to attend the special ceremony at the Canadian War Museum to meet the King and Queen of Belgium who were in Ottawa to commemorate Canadians who died in WWI.   Max was told he was chosen because he had demonstrated leadership and a sophisticated understanding of both Canadian and global politics in his small group sessions.
From this group of 10, Max was then one of two students chosen to meet and greet the King and Queen.
There is an opportunity for students to participate in a 3-month exchange with our partner schools in Japan and Germany. The exchanges are 3-month exchanges between two students at their respective schools. The Vancouver student will register for their 2018-2019 classes at Kitsilano and travel to Japan or Germany to start school in September at Bihoku High School in Inuyama, Japan or at Reuchlin Gymnasium in Ingolstadt, Germany. They will return to Kits in November, in time to start second term. The Japanese counterpart will arrive in January 2019, and stay until March Break, while the German exchange partner will come to Vancouver April to June 2019.
The costs for these exchanges are limited to the Flight ($1500), Insurance ($300) and spending money.
DEADLINE APRIL 20th  You must let Mr.Mehl know you are intending to participate and pick up / complete the required forms!
