King George Secondary, Lord Roberts Elementary and Elsie Roy Elementary Schools are a Family of Schools within the Vancouver School Board offering the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) for all grade 6 to 10 students.

The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme is a five-year programme designed for students in grades 6 to 10.  The aim of the IB MYP is to stimulate students’ curiosity and to help them relate the content learned in the classroom to their local and international communities.  The program emphasizes the development of the whole child through an inquiry based approach to teaching.  All students in grades 8-10 are part of the MYP programme.

Throughout the three years in the programme students will be encouraged to participate in community service.  Students are encouraged to become contributing members of their local and global communities through volunteering their time.

In Year 5 (Grade 10) Student’s will complete a Personal Project.  This is an opportunity for them to demonstrate their growth as learners and global citizens.  The Personal Project is intended to be the culmination of the student’s involvement in the Middle Years Programme.

One way of understanding the fundamental perspective of the IB MYP is to remember the phrase “and more.”

  • Students are expected to be well versed in traditional subject areas of the curriculum – “and more” – they are encouraged to see the relationships between them.
  • Students are expected to develop a genuine understanding of their own history and culture – “and more” – they are encouraged to appreciate the traditions of other people and places.
  • Students are expected to have a firm command of language as a means of communication – “and more” – they are encouraged to develop admiration for the elegance and richness of human expression.
