    May 31, 2019

My name is Jennifer Wolowic and I am the Managing Director of the Stigma and Resilience Among Vulnerable Youth Centre at UBC’s School of Nursing. We are partnering with OPT and funded by the Michael Smith Foundation to host 2 evening educational workshops for East Asian parents and caregivers to learn about and discuss how to support their children’s sexuality and family relationships. The events will have interpreters available as we would like the event to be accessible to Mandarin and Cantonese speakers.

    TEEN SEXUAL ORIENTATION
    & HEALTH:

A workshop for East Asian Parents & Caregivers

Talking about sexual orientation can be hard, but small steps go a long way. Research at UBC shows that a supportive family who is accepting without judgement helps reduce health risks, improve well-being, and raise self-esteem for youth. This means that understanding and respecting your child’s sexual orientation makes a real difference in their lives.

SARAVYC and Options for Sexual Health invite you to a workshop where you’ll learn more about:

    • Supporting and understanding teen sexual orientation
    • Research that shows family support improves youth well-being
    • Creating a caring and accepting family dynamic

You’ll also have the opportunity to share your perspective and have your questions answered by sexual health experts. For more information emailsaravyc@nursing.ubc.ca.
