---"Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible."---
On the morning of October 21st, John Oliver Secondary School, in collaboration with the Dalai Lama Centre for Peace and Education, is honoured to host His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama as part of THE HEART-MIND YOUTH DIALOGUE.
This very special event will feature the Dalai Lama engaging in dialogue with a group of high school students from both John Oliver and across British Columbia to uncover their personal experiences with Heart-Mind learning in school. It will also include Patti Bacchus, Chair of the Vancouver Board of Education, and Shane Koyczan, the Spoken Word poet who recently played an important role during the opening ceremony of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. Over 30,000 students from across British Columbia will be joining the event via live streaming.
During his previous visits to Vancouver, the Dalai Lama challenged British Columbians to advance heart-mind learning in children and youth. Heart-Mind learning has been proven to no only improve the well-being of children, but it also improves academic performance. Since then, British Columbia has become a global leader in incorporating Heart-Mind learning into school curriculum.
