VSB Library: Free Online Tools for Students

Updated September 2018

Last year, the VSB switched to a new library system called VSB Library. VSB Library has many helpful tools for students to use online. They are all free for student use and can be accessed on any computer that has internet access.

This sheet gives basic instructions on using most of the tools on VSB Library. Please keep this at home as a handy reference.

Checking Your Library Account

I encourage all students to check their school library account on a regular basis. This helps students to keep track of their library books.

By checking your account, you can find out:

·         Which books and how many you have checked out.

·         When your books are due.

·         If you have any lost or overdue books.

·         Also, you can create lists of books that you are interested in and put holds on books that you would like to borrow.

To access your account, follow these steps:

1. Go to

2. Click on “Log In” at the top right corner.

3. Type your MyEdBC number ___________________ in the box beside “User Name” then type your password ___________________.

4. Click on the “Log In” button then click on the “My Info” tab.

5. Click on the “Logout” button when you are done.

Searching for Books Using VSB Library

You can use VSB Library to search for books in our library. You can search:

·     By logging in then clicking on “Catalog”.

·    Without logging in by clicking on “_______ Elementary School”.

Databases, eBooks and Videos

The Vancouver School Board provides all students with access to a “digital library” filled with databases, e-books, and video services. (A database is an organized collection of information; an e-book is an electronic book). Students can find information to do research and complete assignments, read and interact with e-books, and watch educational videos.

The electronic resources that I recommend and use most with students include:

·       BookFlix

·       The Canadian Encyclopedia

·       Learn360

·       National Geographic Kids

·       NFB (National Film Board of Canada)

·       The Province

·       World Book

Using Databases, eBooks and Videos

1. Go to

2. Login then make sure you are on the “Home” tab.

3. Click on the name of the electronic resource you want to use.

4. If you are asked to log in, please refer to this list of logins and passwords:

·     Most resources use: user ID 39** and password library

·     For NFB use: password Library39

·    For The Province use: e-mail *** and password library

·    For Passport to the Internet use: username 39all and password library
