Statement of Purpose

The purpose of our code of conduct is to promote the continued success of all learners.

LEARNING                 as a community committed to the success of all learners

 

Conduct that will NOT be tolerated at Hudson includes:

1.     Teasing, name calling, put downs*

2.     Spreading hurtful gossip*

3.     Bullying (physical and verbal)*

4.     Fighting

5.     Threatening or intimidation of other*

6.     Stealing Vandalism

7.     Defiance

8.     Use of profanity

9.     Other behaviour which staff deem to put the students, other students, or school staff at risk

Consequences for unacceptable conduct:

In determining any consequence for unacceptable student conduct the following factors will be taken into consideration:

  • Age of the student
  • Past behaviour of the student/previous incidents (consequences will escalate for repeated behaviour)
  • Severity of the incident
  • Willingness of student to accept responsibility for their actions and make positive changes in the future

 

Consequences for unacceptable student conduct MAY include:

  • Suspension from school or in-school suspension
  • Loss of privileges
  • Placement on Level System for recess and lunch times.  Level System in place for intermediate and primary ages students
  • Assignments of a task(s) which student undertakes to make restitution for their actions the goal being: to promote empathy and foster appreciation of how behaviour impacted others
  • Meeting between parent(s), student, staff to develop a plan for future behaviour

 

Informing Parents/Guardians:

 

Parents will be contacted by phone and/or letter in the event their child is involved in serious misconduct.  A meeting between school staff and the parent(s)/guardian(s) may be requested.

 

Informing Others:

 

Depending upon the severity of the behaviour and/or number of occurrences, the following may be contacted:  Vancouver Police Department, Office of the Superintendent of Schools, Ministry for Children and Families, other appropriate agencies

 

Playground Level System:

 

Consequences for inappropriate actions or behaviour which occur at recess and/or lunch time may be determined (depending on the severity of the incident) using the following level system.  The level a student is placed at and the duration will be determined based on the guidelines outlined under Consequences for Unacceptable Conduct section of the Hudson Code of Conduct.


Summary of Level System:

Level 1 – You may have outdoor privileges like all other students

Level 2 – You must check in with a supervision aide, teacher or principal at least once during recess   

                 and lunch.  

Level 3 – No outside privileges. You will work inside at recess and lunch
