SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT

IN-BOUNDARY (CATCHMENT) STUDENTS – REGULAR PROGRAM
You must complete and attach the following documents:
  • Complete the Eric Hamber Grade 8 Student Enrolment Form (listed below).
  • Copy of the most recent Grade 7 Report Card.
  • Copy of a Canadian Government Issued document such as Birth Certificate, Passport OR Permanent Resident Card.

CROSS-BOUNDARY STUDENTS – REGULAR PROGRAM
You must complete and attach the following documents:
  • Complete the Eric Hamber Grade 8 Student Enrolment Form (listed below).
  • Copy of the most recent Grade 7 Report Card.
  • Copy of a Canadian Government Issued document such as Birth Certificate, Passport OR Permanent Resident Card.
  • Cross Boundary Application Form (available from your elementary school). Please Do Not separate the forms.

ERIC HAMBER’S GRADE 8 PROGRAM

All students in Grade 8 take the following program of studies:

1. English 2.    Mathematics 3. Science   4. Social Studies   5. French  

6.     Fine Arts - Students choose one of the following Fine Arts options: 

A. Fine Arts 8 Half Year Elective Course including
  • Fine Arts 8, which consists of two courses, each taken for half a year.  Students select, in order of preference from the following three choices: Art/Choir 8, Art/Drama 8 OR Choir/Drama 8.

B. Fine Arts 8 Full Year Elective Course including
  • Beginning Band 8 – which is a full year course for students who have an interest in learning to play a band instrument (flute, clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, bari sax, oboe, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, bass, tuba, and percussion). Students will learn fundamental instrumental techniques, theory, and performance skills.
  • Advanced Band 8 - which is a full year course for students who have at least one year of experience on a band instrument.
  • Beginning Strings 8 - which is a full year course, designed for students who have an interest in learning to play string instruments (violin, viola, cello, and bass).  Students will learn basic instrumental techniques as well as basic music theory.
  • Advanced Strings 8 - which is a full year course for students who have at least two years of experience on a stringed instrument.

7. Applied Skills - Applied Skills 8 consists of three courses which students rotate through:  Home Economics, Business Education, and Technical Studies.

8. Physical Education 8/Health & Career Education

THE SCHOOL DOES NOT GUARANTEE A STUDENT TO BE SCHEDULED INTO THEIR FIRST CHOICE FINE ARTS ELECTIVE.

ARTICULATION ORIENTATION ACTIVITIES

To help prepare students for the experience of secondary school, we provide an orientation program which includes visits to our family of elementary schools by our vice principals and counselors to talk with Grade 7 students, afternoon visits to our spring drama production and fashion show, as well as an afternoon spent touring Eric Hamber School and participating in mini-lessons.
