Programs and Services

The Garibaldi staff, students, and parents work together in a nurturing community atmosphere, guided by the words of our school song and our motto, "We Think of Others."  The students know that Garibaldi is a safe and secure place; this is important to us in these times.

The staff works collaboratively to provide both educational opportunities and activities which provide and create positive experiences.  Yearly activities include multi-cultural events, school-wide performances, an artist-in-residence mural programme, book fairs, and Sports Day.  Special days are celebrated in a variety of ways, whether it's making and sharing a Friendship Fruit Salad on Valentine's Day or just a celebration with friends, or teachers arrange field studies to enhance the curriculum and to provide students opportunities to explore their city.  Support of the wider community is encouraged by participation in the Terry Fox Run, Thanksgiving Food Drive for the Salvation Army, UNICEF, Vancouver Food Bank donations, Jump Rope for Heart, and the Pitch-In Program.

A unique feature of our school is the promotion of activities which foster and encourage student social responsibility.  This is achieved through regular weekly school meetings.  These are led by our senior students (Grade Four) and include a formal agenda that comprises introductions, announcements, birthdays, performances, and student acknowledgements by teachers.  The meeting is opened with O Canada and concluded with the Garibaldi School song.  The students and parents are actively involved in a recycling and school greening programme.  The development of an outside classroom area is on-going.  This provides an area that is inviting to and safe for the community.
All parents, staff, and students gain understanding and acceptance of our culturally diverse community through these activities.
