STUDENT REGISTRATION DURING SUMMER 2019

PLEASE NOTE: our centre's new name is "Newcomer Welcome Centre."

Who should register at the Newcomer Welcome Centre (NWC)?
·  All students NOT BORN in Canada.
·  All elementary students (Kindergarten – Grade 7) BORN IN CANADA regardless of language spoken at home.

What to bring for student registration at NWC? Please refer to this site: Required Documents

A VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: You will not be able to register your child during the summer if you do not have a proof of address (long-term contract for renter), your child's birth certificate, any document(s) related to the status in Canada for both parents and child, and if your child is unable to be with you to register.

Please note:
*Summer is a very busy time at NWC.  As wait time will be longer than usual, we suggest that parents/legal guardians should come early, and before our registration quota is maxed out (due to limited staffing). Please bring a healthy snack and water for all family members to registration during July and August.  As well, please ensure that you bring all necessary documents [Required Documents].
*If your child is attending a VSB school, but is moving to another area within the city of Vancouver.  What do you need to do?
Changing address during the school year
Please inform your current school.  The school staff will initiate your child’s transfer process to another school. Please bring the following documents for address change:
  • Your new rental agreement or property purchase agreement (with subjects removed). Schools may request a recent bill as well.
  • Proof of your identity WITH photo, such as a passport or citizenship/PR card. *Note: A drivers' license is NOT adequate.
  • Your child's most recent report card.
Changing address in the summer:

If the new address is outside the current school's catchment area, families need to wait for the current elementary catchment school to reopen at the end of August to update their address.  Once this is done they should apply to the new catchment school.  For secondary students, please check with the school regarding summer office hours.  Please bring the following documents for address change:

  • New rental agreement or property purchase agreement (with subjects removed).  Schools may request a recent bill as well.
  • Proof of your identity WITH photo, such as a passport or citizenship/PR card. *Note: A drivers' license is NOT adequate.
  • Child's most recent report card.

If the new address is in the same school's catchment area, families can update their address with the school office when their child returns to school in September.
