Report CardsAll students will receive a written report card by Friday, December 22nd.  Please note that the Attendance Label is not showing up Late Arrivals due to an issue across the District with MyEdBC.

PAC Sponsored PerformanceStudents were treated to a performance today from West My Friend, a musical ensemble putting a differing spin on some familiar tunes.  Thank you to JQ PAC and your direct donation for sponsoring this event.

WE Group Holiday Sale:  The JQ WE Group will be having the first annual WE Holiday Sale from 2-4pm on Monday, December 18 and Tuesday, December 19.  This will be the perfect opportunity to stock up on homemade crafts and baked goods, while also contributing to the initiative that the WE Group is supporting this year ~ Water projects in Tanzania.  We look forward to seeing you there and thank you for your support.

WE Group Battery Recycling CampaignThe JQ WE Group are collecting batteries to reduce the amount of electronic waste going to landfills and help get lifesaving Zinc to those children who need it most.   Please bring in your used household batteries and leave them in the box under the PAC Table at the top of the stairs.

Choir ConcertA concert for the festive season will be held on Thursday, December 21st at 7 pm in the Lord Byng Auditorium.  All welcome.

Primary ConcertStudents in Kindergarten, Grade 1 and 2 will hold a short concert on Friday, December 22nd at 11:00 am in the school gymnasium.

Goodbye to Mme Haley Workun:  The school would like to wish a fond farewell to grade 4/5 teacher Mme Haley Workun.  For the past 5 years, Mme Workun has been a dedicated and gifted classroom teacher, an incredible volleyball coach (many former students made their high school teams due to Mme Workun’s excellent coaching), has served on various school committees and has travelled to Quebec with grade 7 students.   We will miss you Mme Workun and wish you all the best on your move to the Surrey School District.

Goodbye to Mme Natalie:  It will be Mme Natalie’s last week at the school so do say goodbye if you run into her.   It is with mixed emotions that Mme Natalie transfers schools as she has made many friends amongst the JQ community having  been both a parent as well as educator and administrator at the school.  She will be missed by all of us and on behalf of staff and parents, we would like to take this opportunity to wish her all the very best as the new Principal at L’Ecole Bilingue.

Lost & Found:  Please continue to check the Lost & Found as we near the end of term.  To prepare for the school being cleaned over the winter break, all unclaimed items will be donated to charity next week.

Yearbook:  If you are interested in purchasing a JQ Yearbook, please order before the end of January as we have to give final print numbers at that time.  The book is $15.00 and can be paid on www.school-day.com or by cheque/cash to the office.  Thank you.

Dates to Note:
Monday, January 8th:  First Day of School after Winter Break
Thursday, January 11th:  French Immersion Info. Meeting for September 2018 Kindergarten Applicants
Monday, January 29th:  Curriculum Implementation Day – No school for students

Kindergarten Registration:  If you have not already done so, please let the office know if your child will have a sibling entering Kindergarten in September 2018 so that we can verify they are on the list.  Thank you.
An information meeting, primarily for those families who are unfamiliar with the French Immersion program will be held on Thursday, January 11TH at 7 pm in the Multi-Purpose Room.
Application processParents must register at their neighbourhood English catchment school up to the end of January before applying for choice programs.  Between the first week of January and the first week in February, you can apply to attend a choice program online.  A draw is used to determine student placements. By late February you should hear back whether you have a space in the school or program. You will be given a formal offer of a space in a kindergarten choice program or an indication of where you are on the program waitlist.

Scent aware:  A staff member on the third floor has some sensitivity to perfumes, colognes or strongly scented hand creams.  Would you please keep this in mind if you are visiting any of the classrooms or Library on the third floor of the school.  Your cooperation would make a big difference.  Thank you.
