Cross-Country Meet: The second Mini-Meet will be held on Monday, October 2nd at Jericho Park. PLEASE NOTE that there is a NEW START / FINISH LOCATION this year. We are starting just west of the Jericho Beach Concession. This Concession is right along Point Grey Road, directly WEST of Brock House and the Jericho Tennis Club. Best entry point by car is via Alma then west on Point Grey Road. There is a parking lot just south of the concession stand. Once there, people will see where the start and finish areas are.
Meet starts at 3:30 pm with grade 7 boys. Remember to bring your JQ jersey and water bottle . Please note that there will be no cross-country practice on Monday morning.
Student Photos: Lifetouch Individual Student Photos are being sent home today so please check your child’s backpack. Order deadline is October 6th and families have the option to place their order online (info. in package) or return a paper order form and payment to school. Please note that there will be a retake day on Friday, October 27. Please contact Liz in the office for any missing photos so that these can be chased up.
Early Dismissal Reminder & Conferences: Parents are reminded that there will be two Early Dismissal days next week on Wednesday, October 4th and Thursday, October 5th due to conferences. On both of these days, school will end at 2 pm, one hour earlier than normal. See information from your child’s teacher on how to sign-up for a conference.
School Fees: A reminder to pay school fees if you have not already done so. $25.00 School Fees for all VSB students; $10.00 for Agenda fees for grades 2 to 7 (exceptions Div 1-Monsieur D and Div 12-Monsieur Alexandre); $25.00 extra-curricular fees for grades 1 – 7. They may be paid online at www.school-day.com or via cash or cheque payable to Ecole Jules Quesnel.
The fee for swimming lessons for students in grades 1 – 3 has been placed on School-day and is $28.00 and can also be paid via cash/cheque.
Terry Fox Run: We had a wonderful sunny day for the school’s annual Terry Fox Run yesterday. Thank you to volunteer parents who showed up to help out and cheer on our students. If you would like to donate, please visit the PAC’s fundraising page at https://jqpac.com/events/past-events/terry-fox-run/. The school’s goal is to raise $4000 for the Terry Fox Foundation to honour Terry Fox’s dream and his efforts to find a cure for all forms of cancer. As of yesterday, the school had raised $800.
Hearing Screening for Kindergarten students will be held on Thursday, October 5th form 9:15 am to 12 noon.

Traffic Zones: Thank you for respecting the NO DROP Off Zone on Crown Street. Share license plate numbers with Natalie if you see an infraction as these will be reported to the school’s Police Liaison Officer.
Condolences: Our thoughts and condolences are with the family, friends and colleagues of Teresa Maier (formerly Dodd), who passed away earlier this week. Colleagues at JQ are very saddened by this news and will miss her dearly. Teresa was a former JQ grade 3 teacher for many years.

Walk to School Week – Oct 2-6, 2017

Walk and Wheel to School helps the JQ school and JQ PAC encourage students, parents, staff, and community members to celebrate the many benefits of walking and wheeling to school – with help from DASH BC, and some local businesses who donate prizes.

PAC General Meeting: The first PAC meeting of this academic year will be held on Monday, October 2nd from 9:05 am to 10:00 am in the JQ Staffroom. All are Welcome! We will be unveiling our 2017-18 plans and welcome your questions, comments and inspirations! JQ WE Group: The first JQ WE Group meeting of this academic year was held today. Next meeting will be Friday, October 13. This is a perfect opportunity for interested students to meet and connect with existing WE Group members and get to know a little about WE. Students in grades 7 and 6 are welcome. PAC Direct Donation: Thank you to all of those who have already donated to our direct donation campaign. Direct donation is the most efficient way to enrich all of our children's school experience. Each year, PAC endeavors to stretch those dollars as far and as wide as possible. This years direct donation will be used towards new library books, Community events such as a family skate, classroom enrichment, soccer balls and other sports equipment, tennis, water polo and dance lessons among other things. We are hoping to finish the direct donation earlier this year so that we can begin purchases, book classes and otherwise commit the money to this years success!
