Our Mission

Our mission is to build a respectful community of lifelong learners. We work towards becoming caring, accomplished and cooperative citizens. We aim to provide an enriched environment in which children are encouraged to think, question, create and wonder.

Our Code of Conduct

Page Content

As students become older, more mature and move through successive grades, they are expected to demonstrate increasing personal responsibility and self-control. At Queen Mary, we respect each other, respect learning and respect property. Our Code of Conduct details expectations for student behaviour while at school, while going to and from school, and while attending school functions or activities at any location, including on-line behaviour when it has a negative impact on the school environment or interferes with learning.Page Content

2017 Calendar updates are on our webpage and sent out on School Day.

Please refer to it often.

Dear Families,

The school year is almost done and it has been great year of learning and community fun.  I would like to thank our PAC for all the support they give our school.  The Bollywood Dance was amazing!  Last week we had a wonderful Farewell Assembly and recognized all the service students do for our school from office monitors, PA announcers, Assembly leaders, Leadership group, Crossing guards, Library monitors as well as all the sports teams.  It was great to see how many students are recognized!  Thanks also to our parents for Safe Arrival and Crossing guard assistance.

Good bye and welcome

We are saying good bye to some staff moving on to new schools and retiring and we will welcome some new staff who will add to our great school.

Welcoming of new teachers and staff

Mr. Klassen

Ms. Lam

The PAC website is awesome and keeps parents up to date!

We start back on the first Tuesday on September 5th from 9:00- 10:00.  This year with the return to the contract language for teachers we will not be able to officially organize until up to September 15th to ensure class size and composition is in compliance.  We have worked hard to create a draft organization but this might change so this is why we cannot announce who is teacher which grade and what class your child(ren) will be in. Students will return to their last year’s class and we are planning lots of learning for the first week. Thank you for your patience.

Once your child has been placed in a class we ask you to support the decision and let them settle in.  If after a few weeks you have concerns, then please arrange to see the teacher and me so we can review decision.  We have great teachers and consider many factors when placing students.

Meet the Teacher/Staff

We have planned the Meeting the staff for September 20th at 5:00- 6:30. We will send details out early in September.

Our School Goals

We are excited about our Pro D focus and school goal for this year!  We will keep you posted and include PAC in our plans.  We want to ensure we are using the new spaces in our wonderful school effectively for learning.

Inquiry question for 2017-18

How do we build a positive, caring and supportive community of learners which celebrates diversity through personalized, transformative learning?

We will reflect on our growth by: assessing student self-assessment and core competencies; sharing highlights from our class programs; holding regular full school assemblies; and developing Pro D which has a facilitator focusing on Design Curriculum.

Lost and Found

Please check the Foyer for Lost and Found items.  We have quite the collection and would like to get the clothing back to your children!

Class Clean up

Teachers will be busy this week cleaning the classrooms and asking students to take home all their work

Late return to school

Please see the form on School Day if you will be returning late to school in September.  We are totally full and if we don’t hear from a family in September about a student we will think they are not returning.

Instant messaging is very popular for communicating with friends and discussing homework, school projects and day to day thoughts. Just as you would make sure you knew who your child was hanging out with make sure you know who your child is talking to on the Internet by reviewing their buddy list with them. Visit .html or

The Vancouver School Board offers the service of purchasing basic school supplies in bulk at wholesale prices and passing the cost savings on to families.  The School Supply Fee for 2017 – 2018 is $25.00 per student.

This fee covers basic consumable school supplies used for students’ personal use such as paper, writing tools, glue sticks, erasers, exercise books and art supplies.  Supplies are provided for the full year.

** The 2017/2018 school year is the final year that school supplies will be purchased for a set fee by the school district.  Starting in September 2018, parents will need to purchase items on their own, or arrange directly with a supplier to purchase supplies in a ‘bulk’ format.  More information will be available to parents about this change.

Student Agenda/Planner – $5.00

Students at Queen Mary will be using an Agenda/Planner in grades 1-7. School agendas/planners are a valuable tool for teaching children how to organize and plan for school. While students are not required to have an agenda/planner it is designed to assist students with the skills of organization and time management and is a very useful communication tool often used between teachers and families.

Performance Fee – $25

We are pleased to enrich your child’s learning through a wide variety of performances this year.  This supplementary fee supports the school in bringing in talented and professional theatrical and musical performers that align with a particular educational theme.  Parent support has made these opportunities possible and we appreciate your continued contribution.

Field Studies – To be determined throughout the school year at the classroom level

Throughout the school year your child’s teacher may plan supplementary learning opportunities at locations outside of the school and request monies towards entrance fees, transportation or equipment rental.  Your child’s teacher will communicate this information to you directly.

Workbooks – to be determined

This year, students in some divisions will be bringing home a  Practice and Homework Book.  This material supplements the classroom math program.

The workbook is available for purchase at the cost of up to $10.00  Students are not obligated to purchase the workbook, and may opt to use their copy as a reference textbook instead, meaning the workbook will be returned at the end of the school year for another student to use in the future.  Students opting to use the workbook as a textbook will be responsible for ensuring that it remains unmarked and in excellent condition in order to return the workbook at the end of the year.
