Week of October 2 - 6

Hello Grenfell Community,

Is our wonderful extended 2017 summer coming to a close?

As it is raining today I would like use this time to ask for your help with preparing our students for the inevitable rainy season that we so love in Vancouver.  Students learn best when their bodies have regular movement breaks and exercise.  Knowing this we expect all our students to be outside during recess and lunch.  This includes rainy days.  A good rain jacket and hat is a great way to make sure your child receives the exercise it needs to perform well academically, socially, and health-wise.  Thank you so much for helping us out in this.

Here is our week ahead:

On Tuesday after school is the sign-up for our Windermere Community School programs.  If you are interested in enrolling your child in one of these activities please have a look at the brochure on the main page of our website under "Publications".

Thank you to all students, families, and staff who have made our Terry Fox run a great event for kids as well as an opportunity to donate money towards cancer research.  At last count we have raised $751.70.  We are still accepting donations for the Terry Fox Foundation; we are only a few more donations away from the $1000 mark.  If you would like to help, please bring or send your donation to the office and we will pass it on to the foundation.

I would like to thank Mr. Macdonald and Ms. Dissenga for their work in coaching our Grenfell Griffins soccer team.  We have a few action shots on our facebook page if you would like to see some of our future Champions League stars.  Practices are on Monday and Wednesday mornings and games are on Monday afternoons.  Go Griffins!!

Thank you also to all the parents that showed up for yesterday’s PAC meeting.  We talked about parent engagement, fundraising, report cards, and other points of interest for parents and families.  We had good discussion, some laughs and it is always great for parents to connect with each other and share.  I believe the more parents talk to each other, the more our children benefit.  Our next meeting will be November 2nd at 7:00 pm, see you then.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Jonathan
