Kindergarten registration for children born in 2013 begins on November 1st.
All Kindergarten applicants are required to submit an application to their English catchment elementary school. This includes families who wish to apply for choice programs (French Immersion, Montessori, etc.) and/or a cross boundary placement.
The priority registration period for Kindergarten opens on Wednesday November 1st and closes at 4 pm on Wednesday January 31st. Students who submit an application within this priority period will be accommodated before late applicants.
In the event there are more in-catchment applicants than the school can accommodate the following process will be used to prioritize enrolment:
Kindergarten Applications Received Between November 1st and January 31st
1.       In-catchment Kindergarten applicants with siblings in attendance at the school (and who will be attending next year) will be placed first.
2.       The names of all other in-catchment registrants will be entered into a random draw for the remaining Kindergarten spaces.
3.       Students who cannot be accommodated will be placed on a waitlist in the order in which their name was drawn.
4.       Between January 31st and the second Friday in June students on the ordered waitlist will be accommodated as space becomes available.
Kindergarten Registrations Received AFTER January 31st
In-catchment Kindergarten students who apply after January 31st will be accommodated if there is space.  If there is no space their names will be added to the bottom of the existing waitlist.

Safe Arrival - IMPORTANT

If your child will be away from school for any reason, please let the school know ahead of time.  If you need to keep your child at home unexpectedly due to illness, etc. please call the school's Safe Arrival message line at 604-713-5159, extension 24.  If a student is absent and we have not been notified, the office staff will call home to check that your child is safe.  The more students whose absences are known allow the school to check on others more quickly, which helps us make sure everyone is safe and accounted for. Thank you for your cooperation.

Bike to School Week - a message from the PAC

Hello G.T. Cunningham Community,

We are celebrating Bike to School Week May 29th - June 2nd.
Bike to School Week is a free, fun, week-long celebration for kids of all ages and abilities, it helps reinforce kids' natural interest in cycling.
Each participating school is eligible to win great prizes!  We will track our schools involvement and number of riders with a fun, interactive sticker and poster station. Treats will be available to participating riders.
When arriving at the school the HUB Bike to School Station will be set up along the front grassy area of the school (Nanaimo street). If the weather is wet we will be located under the overhang near the garbage cans.
A reminder to students to always wear a bike helmet when riding and to bring a lock/security device to keep their bike safe at the school.

Happy Riding!

Kindergarten Registration Information for September 2017

Do you have a child born in 2012?
Kindergarten registration started on November 1st
-------
All Kindergarten applicants are required to submit an application to their English catchment elementary school.  This includes families who wish to apply for choice programs (French Immersion, Montessori, etc.) and/or a cross boundary placement.

If your child was born outside of Canada, you need to report to the VSB District Reception and Placement Centre (DRPC) and complete the initial Kindergarten application there.

In a few Vancouver schools there may be more in-catchment applicants than the school can accommodate.  For those schools, applicants who applied within the priority registration period (November 1 to January 31) will be included in a draw for available spaces.  Students with siblings already in attendance at the school (and who will be attending next year) will be placed prior to the draw.

When registering your child please bring:
1.      Proof of residence in Vancouver
2.      Child’s birth certificate
3.      Immigration documentation (if applicable)

A Message from the VSB re: Snow Plans

Snow Event Notification
Vancouver School Board has procedures that are followed in situations where heavy snowfall might be affecting schools.
All schools in the Vancouver School Board will remain open if at all possible during snow events. Any district-wide closure will be decided by 7:00 a.m. at the latest. Details of district-wide or individual school closures will be announced through the media and the district website: www.vsb.bc.ca
Please note that no announcement will be made stating that schools are open. Only closures and delayed openings will be announced.
Information about school closures will be sent to Metro Vancouver radio and television stations. Please check the following stations for school closure information (but do not call them):
Radio
Television
CBC AM 690 radio, 88.1 FM
Global BC
CKNW AM 980 radio
CBC TV
News AM 1130 radio
CTV BC
Fairchild AM 1470 radio
City TV

Student safety is the first priority of the Vancouver School Board. Schools will be kept open except under extreme circumstances to provide the option of attendance for all, but the decision to attend is the responsibility of each family.
Parents/guardians are responsible for their children's safe travel to and from school. If, for any reason, a parent/guardian feels that a child cannot travel safely to school, then they should make other arrangements.
During extreme weather conditions it is also common for police and other authorities to advise citizens to avoid unnecessary travel. Parents should take this advice as well. Students will not be penalized for lack of attendance under such poor weather conditions. Students are reminded to wear appropriate clothing for the conditions. When sidewalks and roads are slippery students walking to school should take extra care.
We encourage you to review your own preparations for severe weather conditions and ensure that you are familiar with the city’s response procedures for those conditions. We request that you strictly adhere to parking restrictions in and around all Vancouver schools. Your child’s school will contact you about any changes to driving routes that may be put into effect on streets adjacent to the school.
Busing
School buses for students with special needs will attempt to operate on their normal schedule during days with snow or other severe weather. Significant changes to the bus schedule as a result of weather conditions will be reported on the district website. Should the condition of side streets require a change to the operation of school buses for our students with special needs, or any cancellation of service, affected families will be informed.
