Ms. Sula's Class Makes Lanterns for Lunar New Year

The lanterns will be on display at the Vancouver Art Gallery on Feb. 24th and 25th from 12pm - 6pm.

The Origins of the Lanterns

Light is an ancient source of hope and warmth, especially in the winter and plays a crucial role in countless cultures across human history. Light has developed into many creative and artistic forms, one of which is the Sky Lantern. Believed to originate in China's Warring States period, sky lanterns were once used as a means of signaling across vast distances during warfare.

Lanterns also hold symbolic meanings in many nations, includig in new year celebrations in Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, China and even Poland. In the Lunar New Year tradition, the lantern symbolizes hope and blessings.

Happy Lunar New Year!
