Cook Students Shine In Math Competitions!!!

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the Young Years Math Olympiad Competition this year. We had participants from Grades 2-7. Cook Elementary students received some special awards! Selena D. earned the top score among all Grade 6 students in BC and Matthew F. earned the top score among all Grade 7 students in BC! Furthermore, our eight highest scoring Grade 7 scores when combined earned the top class score among all Grade 7 classes in BC! This honour goes to Adrian T., Annalise P., Brayden Y., David Z., Fraser D., Jonathan C., Matthew F. and Stephanie T..
Also, congratulations to Jonathan C. for his incredible 7th place finish at the Elmacon Math Competition held at UBC this Spring.
Well done to all the participants who represented Cook Elementary so incredibly well!

BIKE TO SCHOOL AND WORK WEEK!!!!!

​Come by the Lobby and participate in our PAC sponsored Bike Raffle. Two beautiful new bikes (one Primary and one Intermediate that include locks and helmets!)) are currently on display to be raffled off! Come by to check them out!

THE CARD PROJECT IS HERE AT CAPTAIN COOK!!!! ORDERS DUE WEDNESDAY, APRIL 18TH!

​The Card Project turned our student's art into unique, professionally printed greeting cards, of which you would have received a personalized sample of your child's art ! Families now have the opportunity to order some of your child's cards, notebooks, and/or sketchbooks with the children's own art on the covers!

Orders are due Wednesday, April 8th, 2018.

Orders will be delivered by May 4 - in good time for Mother's Day! This is a wonderful fundraising opportunity for our school. The school will receive 20% of all sales. Visit www.TheCardProject.ca

The Teachers and Classes are focusing on letter writing, Thank You cards, and written communication as ways of expression so this fundraiser is right in line with the curriculum that is occurring in classes!

PAC Book Fair Makes Its Target Goal!!!

​Our amazing PAC is holding their Winter/Spring Book Fair this week! The Book Fair will be held Tuesday, Febryary 20th to Friday, February 23rd in Room 264. Come by and check out all the wonderful opportunities to learn more!

SEASONAL HIGHLIGHTS AT COOK

Seasonal Highlights at Cook
 
            As we gear up for the holiday season, we would like to inform you of the many events happening at Cook.  We thank you in advance for all your contributions and support!
 
Captain Cook’s Holiday Raffle
Win a basket filled with fun (One for primary and one for Intermediate), or a Gingerbread House (Check the front display glass to see what you can win)
Raffle tickets are $2 and can be obtained from your child’s classroom teacher. 
We will be selling them until Wednesday, Dec. 20th so get them fast! 
All proceeds raised will help finance special school-wide events, activities, and field trips.
 
Food Drive
We are collecting non-perishable food items and canned goods to help support families in need this holiday season.  Donations can be lined up along the wall of our main hallway, starting in front of the office.  Please help us reach our goal of getting to the end of the hallway by Friday, Dec. 22nd.
 
Spreading Kindness Drive – Gifting necessities to the less fortunate
Each grade is collecting items for the “New Fountain Shelter” which provides warm beds and support for many vulnerable people in our city.  Donations will be collected until Friday, Dec. 22nd in the grade specific boxes in the front entrance by the Christmas tree.  Please see the list below for donation ideas.

Morning Carolling Continues
We look forward to continuing our tradition of singing carols in the front entrance next Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 8:40am.  Come spread the holiday cheer!
 
Holiday Fun Hat Day
Come dressed in your favourite seasonal hat on Wednesday, Dec. 20th.  We expect to see lots of toques, Santa hats, reindeer antlers, elf hats, and all sorts of winter fun!
 
Winter Concert
Come join us on Thursday, December, 21st at 1:00pm in the gym to celebrate performances of the season.  There will be lots of room in the gym as this year we have planned a special separate assembly for families and friends.  The students look forward to sharing their talents!

VSB Safe Arrival Program Information

​Please refer to the September Newsletter posted below for important information on the Vancouver School Board's new Safe Arrival Program procedures. A copy of this newsletter went home on legal sized yellow paper earlier this year. There is a separate phone number and input code that needs to be used before 9:00am every morning if your child will be away from school.
