Note from our Music Teacher, Mr.Macintosh
There will be two choir practices this week (Tuesday & Wednesday) in preparation for the Remembrance Day Assembly. For the Assembly, Choir members are being asked to please wear dark pants or skirts with a white or light shirt/blouse/top. Below is the link with the example of the song that will be sung as well as the practice video that has the melody and lyrics.

Also most of the students who are in Div. 6, 7, 8, and 9 now have recorders and have been playing around the school and hopefully at home. I would like to remind parent/guardians to encourage the students to make the most pleasant sound possible and to be mindfull that the recorder if over-blown will not sound good. I will update the recorder pages soon.

Upcoming Events and Volunteer Opportunities

Note from our Music Teacher, Mr.Mac

Hello Emily Carr Families,

We are starting up a choir at Emily Carr and it is open to students in grades 2 through 7. We had our first session on Wednesday, October 17 in the music space/lunch room from 12:25 to 12:55. I was pleased to see around 38 students come out, of the 38 around fifteen were students from primary grades; so if the numbers remain steady we might have two choirs, with a primary choir on Tuesdays at lunch (which will allow those students in chess club to have an opportunity to join) and the Intermediates on Wednesday at lunch.  We are starting with just a half an hour and hopefully we could work up to two sessions a week. Students can join any time, however there needs to be a commitment for the next two months, as there are 2 performances scheduled: 1) the Remembrance Day Assembly; and 2) the Winter Assembly. This week students will be given an “information sheet/contract” that needs to be reviewed and signed by both student and parent/guardian. More information as well as that choir letter will be found at “The Emily Carr Elementary School Music Site” which is at:

http://theemilycarrelementaryschoomusicsite.weebly.com

The site is still under construction and should be fully operational in the next 2 weeks.

At this point we are working on 2 pieces “Dona Nobis Pacem” and “Believer”; the Dona Nobis will be presented at the Remembrance Day Assembly and “Believer” will be a repertoire piece for possible performances at school and in the community.

Thank you,

Mr. Mac

**Please see attached Choir sign up form**

Pizza Day - Friday, October 26
We have pizza day on Friday for students who have ordered through Munch A Lunch and are looking for parent volunteers to help us hand out pizza. The Halloween Cakewalk is approaching fast... calling all Carr families to make this a great event for the students!  We need donations of cakes or other treats brought to the gym on the morning of Wednesday, October 31st.  Please label your treat with your child's name and division, to be entered to win a prize!

Library Coffee & Tea Social - Friday, November 2nd
Carr parents/families are invited to come by the library between 8:30-9:30am for a quick coffee/tea and chat. It's a great way to meet other Carr parents and caregivers! Everyone welcome.

Note from our Teacher Librarian, Ms.McClenahan

A HUGE THANK YOU GOES OUT TO ALL PARENTS, STAFF AND STUDENTS

This year the Scholastic Book Fair sold almost $5000 in books and therefore has raised over $1000 in funds for the Library/Learning Commons to use.  We appreciate all of your efforts and purchases!  It was great to see so many students excited about buying new books.  We surpassed our goal and will continue to strive to put “good fit” books into the hands of all students here at Emily Carr.

We also want to say a Big Thank You to all of the great parent volunteers who sold books, helped set up and take down the book fair and while volunteering also encouraged the love of books and literacy.

Thank you also goes to Cindy Wu for scheduling the volunteers during this busy time.

Well Done Carr!
