PAC Meeting - Tuesday, April 24 @ 6:30-8pm

Our next PAC meeting will be an interesting one. In February we started having discussions about what types of projects we'd like to fund as a PAC of 300 students. In the past we have funded things like iPads, tire swings, spotlights for the gym and furniture for the library. Come and join us in the library for an update from our Principal and see what's coming up for the last couple months before the end of the school year! Childcare will be provided for free on site.

FUN FAIR 2018 – Friday June 1 from 5-8pm

Fun Fair is Emily Carr’s Annual Carnival – with games, bbq, DJ, silent auction, cake walk, face painting, photo booth, bouncy castles and more!  The goal of the event is to strengthen the community by getting people together to meet each other and have fun.  It is also the main fundraising event of the year.  The money raised is used to buy items needed by the school.

WE NEED YOUR HELP – YES YOU!!

We need a lot of parent and community support for Fun Fair 2018.  There are many ways to get involved – volunteering your time, sponsoring an event, donating items, or helping to solicit local businesses for donations.

Here are a few ideas – see what is a best fit for you –

Sponsor an Event– this is a great option if you have $$ to spare but no time on hand.  We need sponsors to cover the costs of the following events: Face Painting ($200 for supplies), Crazy Hair ($150 for supplies), Photo Booth ($200 for Instax Film), Cotton Candy Station ($250 for machine and supplies), Food Station ($250 for burgers and drinks), or please feel free to come forward with a new event your family dreams up.

Donate an Item or Prize– another option to consider if you’re short on time.  The Silent Auction needs items such as movie tickets, gift baskets, gift certificates for restaurants or other services, hockey tickets, a night at a cabin, hotel or condo, etc etc.

Solicit Local Businesses– do you have contacts in the community that could lead to a donation of one of the items listed above?  Now is great time for folks to return that favour they owe you.  Contact robin_petri@yahoo.ca if you want a template letter to send out.

Lend an Item– we need bbqs and tents (like the ones used at soccer games) on June 1.  Please let us know if you would be open to us borrowing your tent or bbq.

Make a salad, dessert or cake– notices will come out in May asking for help making salads and desserts for the Food Station or making cakes for the Cake Walk.

Volunteer – lots of helping hands are needed on June 1 to set up, clean up and run each of the Events. A notice will come out in May asking you to sign up to help bbq, serve food or drinks, paint faces, sell tickets, or supervise the silent auction, games or youth volunteers.  This is a great way to get to know the other Emily Carr Parents!

Join the Organizing Committee– and join a fun team of parents that do all the preparations for the event each year.  You would take on the organizing of one of the stations – eg Games, Food, Face Painting Booth… and be responsible for procuring the materials ahead of time, organizing shifts for your volunteers and being the point person for trouble shooting during the event.  It’s a really great experience.  To get involved – contact Robin at robin_petri@yahoo.ca

• What's going on with internet use? What is healthy?

• How to guide our children in digital life?

• What are the effective ways to communicate with teens?

For workshop details, please view the attached or click on the VSB web  https://goo.gl/4y6C9m

Kindly email or text to 778-227-5452 (Elisabeth Chan) providing your full name and phone number should you decide to attend. Thank you.
