Beaconsfield Walk-A-Thon

Dear Parents/Caregivers, 
Thank you for your incredible support for our Adopt-A-Book event at Beaconsfield last week. This event was a HUGE success thanks to the time and effort by PAC parents and Ms. Quinlan – and because of the AWESOME support of students, parents/caregivers and staff in our community. The positive energy and great number of library books generated by this initiative was very impressive!   
This week we are holding a “Walk-A-Thon.” Our “Walk-A-Thon” will be on Thursday, October 12th from 1:00-3:00 pm. The purpose of this school-wide fundraiser is to raise funds for Kindergarten to Grade 5 field trips and to raise funds for our Grade 6/7 camp in the Spring.Students in Kindergarten will be walking 2 km, students in Grades 1-3 will be walking 5 km and students in Grades 4-7 will be walking 10 km. 
All funds raised by students in Kindergarten to Grade 5 will go directly to their division’s classroom field trip fund. For students in Grades 6 and 7, all funds raised by students in these two divisions will be combined and will be put towards the cost of the Grade 6/7 camp later this school year.   
Field trips and camps are an important part of a student’s educational experience. Field trips costs are covered by various sources throughout a school year. They are covered either in part or entirely by an annual grant applied for by our PAC ($15 per student or $300-380 per class), they are paid directly by parents/caregivers, and they are paid through our “Walk-A-Thon” fundraising efforts. Field trips are surprisingly expensive. For example, one bus ride for two classes of intermediate students to go snow shoeing for a day on Cypress costs $600 – and this doesn’t even include the cost of snow shoeing. Pledging your child for the “Walk-A-Thon” will help to reduce the overall costs of fieldtrips and camp for parents/caregivers. 
To help your child prepare for our “Walk-A-Thon” on Thursday, October 12th, please have your child dress in runners and appropriately for weather (e.g. raincoats if rainy).  All pledge sheets and funds are due back on Thursday, October 12th as well. Our “Walk-A-Thon” will be postponed if it is rainy heavily. Thank you for pledging your child to participate in this school-wide event and for encouraging friends and family to pledge as well.
