    Application Forms:  
    MBP packages are available for  pick up in the school office from Wednesday, November 1, 2017 to Wednesday, January 31, 2018 during school hours. Application packages will not be available after Wednesday, January 31, 2018.

    Mandarin Bilingual Program
    • Is unique to Jamieson Elementary School
    • Core curriculum is taught in English.  Mandarin is delivered through Mandarin Language Arts.
    • All requirements of the BC curriculum are covered
    • Starts in grade 4 and continues through to grade 7
    This Program is Designed For Students Who
    • Are residents of Vancouver
    • Are fluent in English and have strong English reading and writing skills
    • Will be entering grade 4 in September and do not have Chinese literacy skills
    • Are entering grades 5 or 6 (if there is space available) and have appropriate Chinese literacy skills for the specific grade openings.
    Priority will be given to students who meet all of the above criteria. 

    The Program Will Develop…
    • Mandarin oral communication skills for a variety of situations
    • Reading and writing skills using Chinese characters
    High School Continuation
    •  The program continues at Eric Hamber Secondary School.
    Class Size
    •  The number of students in each class follows the BC Ministry class size regulations.

    Application Information

    Applications for admission to the Mandarin Bilingual Program that are received at Dr. Annie B. Jamieson Elementary School no later than Wednesday, January 31, 2018 by 3pm will be included in the current year's placement process.  Applications are available at Jamieson Elementary School beginning Wednesday, November 1, 2017.  Completed applications submitted to the school must include all documents listed on the Student Registration Information checklist. This also applies to students of Jamieson Elementary.    

    The application does not constitute registration.  The following selection procedure will apply to all the applications:


    1. All applications will be reviewed and those closely matching the program design will be considered.

    2. Those students will be contacted by the school office (by phone) to arrange an assessment and interview time.  This will take place during the second week of February.

    3. If there are more applications than places available, the places will be assigned on the basis of a draw of eligible applicants received by the Tuesday, January 31st deadline date.   Every attempt is made to provide parents with a response to their application by the middle of February.

    4. Eligible applicants not accepted for placement in this draw will be put on a waiting list.  The order on that list will be determined by a second draw.

    5. An applicant may remain on the waiting list until the third Friday following Labour Day.  After that time, the waiting list will no longer be valid.

    Parents/Guardians will be informed of acceptance by a confirmation letter and must contact Jamieson School by the date mentioned to confirm placement.  Parents who might be away when contact is made, should include alternate telephone numbers on their application form.  Anyone moving is responsible for ensuring their new address and telephone number are provided to the school.  Failure to do so could result in losing the placement.


    Students must report in person to school on Tuesday, September 4th, 2018.  Failure to do so will result in that student's place being given to another student, if there is a waiting list, unless prior written notification detailing the reason for late arrival has been received.


    Information provided on the student application, on the registration form or verbally to school staff, which is subsequently found to be false will provide cause for cancellation of the application or transfer of the student out of the program.



    Registrations are due no later than Wednesday, January 31, 2018, 3pm.

    Program Information meeting will be held on January 17, 2018, 6:30pm in Room 112.

    Arrangements for testing:  Families will be contacted by the first week of February.
